Let's Take A Look Back A Little
Both Aid and I didn't want it to be a 'big' ceremony. As a matter of fact we didn't even want a ceremony. We just wanted it to be as simple as it could be and by that we meant just a few family members and by 'a few' we meant 20 people the most!
(Note: Given the fact that both of us come from a big family, 20 is considered as a 'small group')
We discussed about getting engaged sometime in June or July. It was during a supper right after a play at Esplanade. We thought by being engaged it will give both mothers certain assurance about our relationship and I believe it really gave them that sense of assurance that they had been seeking.
We decided to do it on Christmas because every 25 December is special to us. 25 December 2003 was the first time I saw him. He had seen me probably a week before that and 'enquired' about me through a mutual friend and it so happened that the said friend was someone I've known for years. However, if you were to ask him, he will definitely insist that I had noticed him on the same night and I had even given him the signs! Oh well, I let him be. It boosts his ego perhaps. Hahaha!
So anyway, his side came to ask for my hand sometime in November and Fidz was by my side when that happened. We both got excited and nervous at the same time. It was very 'Maria Mariana moment'. Thanks babe for just being there.
It was then concluded that we would exchange 5 dowries- each representing a year. Everything went well. ALHAMDULILLAH!
My siblings were all there and after his side left, they started to come up with individual's ideas of what the engagement ceremony will be like but hang on, didn't I make it clear that I just wanted a simple affair? By that I mean, no need to go through the hassle of making a new Baju Kurung, getting a Mak Andam or even decorating the room! I guess it all fell on deaf ears.
To my dismay they were already planning for the whole real deal. I had to go through the whole Engagement Ceremony! After much, much persuasion, I obliged. Given the thought that I'm the youngest in the family and looking at how excited everyone was, I felt that I should just cut them some slack.
Up to the very day, I didn't feel anything to the extent that my mum and nephew said I looked as if I was going through a match made process. Heh!
I did question myself though as to why I was close to being emotionless. It's not as if I wasn't excited to the fact that I was a step closer to become Aid's wife. I don't know maybe I was more stress than excited. Stress maybe because I just started work and was worried about financial issues but then again 90% of the whole ceremony was paid for. So I am still wondering why till now.
Anyway, here are some of the photos before the event took place:
the whole gang was there

in total there were 2 'drivers' = 2 cars!

So tell me how can I not cut them some slack when I saw how enthusiastic they were.
Just so you know, on that one Saturday, we went from Arab Street to Joo Chiat to Ikea.
I was indeed very overwhelmed. :)
